This Saturday, July 15, the Greater Rockbridge County Skateboarder Coalition will host Rockbridge Roller Skate Night at the Lexington Skate Park, from 6 to 10 p.m.
From 6 to 9 p.m. this event will provide an old school roller skate atmosphere, for roller skaters and inline skaters only, with DJ Trickle Down Effects providing mixed music from the half pipe, which was completed at the park in 2022.
The park will have a large oval chalked onto the pavement for the roller rink experience. All riders are encouraged to wear safety gear and skating is at your own risk. Everyone is welcome to bring a lawn chair and a cooler for their own refreshments, and there will be water and popsicles for sale to keep everyone hydrated and refreshed. No alcohol please.
If skating isn’t your thing, there is room for dancing in front of the DJ, and there will be some cardboard down for any “B-boys” or “B-girls” who show up and want to breakdance. Party lights will be on the dance area and Lexington Public Works will be providing boom lights at dark to keep the party going.
While this event is for roller and inline skates only from 6 to 9, at 9 p.m. the music stops and there will be a one-hour night session for all-wheeled riders, including skateboarders, bikers and scooters.
The event is free to the public; however, donations to the Greater Rockbridge County Skateboarder Coalition will be accepted to help fund its mission of rehabbing and maintaining the Lexington Skate Park, as well as to promote and advance access to wheeled sports throughout the county.
Rockbridge Roller Skate Night is the first roller skate event and the first ever night event at the Lexington Skate Park, and the GRCSC hopes to see lots of smiling faces to give them a reason to host similar events in the future.
