Fall Vegetable Gardening Seminar
Rockbridge Area Master Gardeners Association (RAMGA) is proud to provide a free seminar on fall gardening this Saturday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Lexington Presbyterian’s Dunlap Auditorium.
Lexington Presbyterian is located on 120 S. Main St. but those attending Saturday’s seminar should enter Dunlap Auditorium at the Randolph Street entrance. No preregistration is necessary for this free program.
Much of the mid-Atlantic is blessed with a long and mostly temperate growing season that can support a diversity of vegetables and fruit extending into the autumn months. While the enthusiasm for the vegetable garden may fade with the heat of summer, our gardens have the capacity to provide a bounty of fresh produce well into the fall and, with a few simple sheltering strategies, even into the holiday season. Jim Kvach, highly experienced Rockbridge gardener and generous RAMGA volunteer, will lead the program and offer great ideas to make an autumn garden a success.
Alternative Income Sources From Your Land
Save the date for Thursday, July 27, at 7 p.m. if you are interested in learning more about existing and emerging markets that will pay for natural resource stewardship.
Nutrient banking, wetlands mitigation offsets, and carbon credits are among the opportunities for landowners to realize income from their land. How do these commitments impact other land uses? Can we take part in these markets and still farm the land?
Plan to attend this seminar sponsored by the Rockbridge County Farm Bureau Federation to learn more about these opportunities. This program will be held at the Virginia Horse Center Appomattox Mezzanine.
