Members of the Rockbridge County High School Wildcat chapter of FCCLA traveled to Virginia Beach in April for the annual state conference and leadership competition and brought home a number of awards.

This year, they were well represented by Daniel Grimm as he finished up his term as state vice president of programs. Along with his adviser Corey Wallace, he went early to help set up the weekend’s events. Grimm was involved in every aspect of the conference as he led sessions, games, workshops, award ceremonies, and more.

Along with Grimm, 12 other chapter members attended the conference and competed in Star Events. Three qualified for the national competition to be held in Denver, Colo., this summer.

The three who qualified for the national competition were Lilly Sudar, first place in sports nutrition; Rachel Bowyer, second place in event planning; and Evan Raynor, second place in culinary math.

Other winners included Kyrstin Allman, first place in culinary arts exhibit, decorated cake; Hailie Ervin, Kamilah Meeks and Alexus Ratcliffe, third place in hospitality, tourism and recreation; Cheyanne Clark, bronze level, instructional video; Dakota Loan, bronze level, baking and pastry; Mattie Robinson, bronze level, food innovations; Zhyasia Singleton, bronze level, chapter in review display; and Jackson Speers, bronze level, chapter service project display.
