Shirley Taylor Goodbar, 86, passed away on July 12, 2023.
She was born in Big Island to the late Garrett Elmer Taylor and Kathleen Carter Taylor.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Goodbar, infant son John Jr., son Michael Cameron, grandson Justin Marianetti and her only sibling Donald R. Taylor.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tami Marianetti (husband Randy) and Kim Adams (husband Gary); six grandchildren, Kara Elum, Seth Adams, Jordan Adams, Brianna Goodbar, Grace Goodbar and Jessica Goodbar; four great-grandchildren, Addison, Ainsley and Annabelle Elum and Emma Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.
After retiring in 1992 from First American Bank, Shirley and her beloved husband Johnny traveled all over the United States, taking bus trips with many close friends. She and Johnny enjoyed many wonderful years together until she became his devoted caregiver when he became ill with ALS. She was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her with her selflessness and deep dedication to her family. She is loved so much and will be missed dearly.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the kind Havenwood Assisted Living facility staff for the care they provided her during her stay. Also thank you to the compassionate staff of Connections Plus Healthcare Hospice.
A funeral was conducted Monday, July 17, at Lexington Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Saunders. Burial followed at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
