The Rockbridge Baths Community Association will be holding its annual summer picnic and potluck on Saturday, July 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the riverside, 99 McCurdy Lane, Rockbridge Baths.
Organizer of the event, Kati Brantley, said that last year’s picnic was such a success that the organization is planning to continue doing this each year. “We had lots of familiar faces last year,” she said, “but the wonderful surprise was that we had so many new faces – people in our community that some of us had never met. There’s nothing like enjoying a great meal with friends – old or new.”
The express purpose of RBCA is to build community. The organization will be providing burgers and hot dogs, as well as private access to swim in the Maury River. “Everyone is welcome,” she continued. “And all you need to do is show up. We’re asking that folks bring a side dish or dessert to share, if they’re able, and they’re welcome to swim, too.”
Alcohol is not permitted at the event. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs as well as a re-usable water bottle to cut down on trash. Anyone planning to swim will need suits, towels and sturdy river shoes. Children are very welcome, but must be accompanied by attentive parents while swimming. Parking is permitted at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, next door to the event. Call Brantley with any questions, at (719) 355-6036.
