The rain-delayed June 21 Snakes Seminar sponsored by Rockbridge Conservation (formerly RACC) has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at the Jordans Point pavilion.
In case of weather problems this time, the Piovano meeting room at the Rockbridge Regional Library has been reserved. If weather becomes an issue, the changed location will be posted no later than 6 p.m. that day on https:// rockbridgeconservation. org/.
Peter Del Vecchio, a local snake enthusiast, will be describing the importance of snakes in the local ecology. He will describe how to identify which are poisonous and nonpoisonous. Understanding the limits of the strike (bite) potential for poisonous snakes can help the public manage the risk, said a spokesman. Where the presence of these snakes close to people represents a high risk, Del Vecchio will describe how to humanely capture them and relocate them to a natural environment where they can serve their ecological role.
