High Bridge mourns the recent passing of Beth Braford Thompson who was a former member and elder at High Bridge in her early years. Beth graduated from Natural Bridge High School class of 1953. She went on to graduate from Montreat College and majored in Christian education where she worked many years with churches. She then moved back to Lexington to run a bookstore in Lexington until her retirement. Beth was also instrumental in helping to organize Kendal. Beth’s obituary in last weeks News Gazette was very interesting in telling about six of 10 siblings that served in the armed forces during World War II. Her memorial service will be Friday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Lexington Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow at Kendal at Lexington.

Plans are underway for vacation Bible school to be held at Cave Mountain Lake on Saturday, July 29, from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donna Lotts, director, is asking for volunteers to help. The theme will be announced later.

Garnett Teass has returned from a vacation to Italy with extended family for three weeks. Jerry and Dwinnie Shafer and members of their family spent a week’s vacation at Cape Hateras. Returning from an Abbott bus mystery tour were Jane Shafer of Plank Road, Cathy Ayers of Buena Vista, Brenda Shafer of Big Island, and Jane’s niece Susan McKnight of Goldsboro. They went to Wisconsin and visited several museums, O’Hara Airport, Green Bay Packers’ Lambeau Field, and other places along the way.

Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry will be open Thursday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. We have a special request for peanut butter and boxes of macaroni and cheese, since our distribution center in Verona is not receiving these goods due to a recent USDA change. Most of our food items are being purchased at the distribution center. We continue to thank our sponsoring churches and supporters for their generous donations as well as thanking our volunteers. Donations can be left at your churches or at our local pantry in Glasgow on days we are open. Call Esther for any questions The food pantry board meeting will be Monday July, 24, at 6 p.m. at Beth Huron United Methodist Church. All supporting churches should send their voting representatives; visitors are welcome.
