Maryland Louise Baker, 84, of Lexington, died Monday, July 17, 2023, at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital.

 

MARYLAND BAKER

Maryland Louise Baker, 84, of Lexington, died Monday, July 17, 2023, at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 21, 1938, in Lexington, a daughter of Wendell Holloway Baker Sr. and Marie Morgan Baker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Wendell H. Baker Jr. and sister, Hortense Borgus.           

Maryland was a faithful member of First Baptist Church.  Ms. Baker received her bachelor degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C., and retired from Hampton City Schools as an educator for over 30 years.

Surviving are her sister, Deborah Perry and husband, Anthony of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Priscilla Baker; nieces and nephews, Sheila Vaughn (Richard), Marlene Mitzel (Steven), Wendell Baker III, Alana Perry-Miller (Kelven), Kelly Gonzalez, David Perry (Katie), Daniel Perry, Priscilla Perry and Esther Perry; great-nieces and nephews, Sarah Shepherd (Travis), Antonio Perry-Miller, Nyhla Perry-Miller, Anthony Gonzalez, Joshua Perry, Brandon Hope and Morgan Robinson (Cody).

A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2023, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. McKinley Williams. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023, by the Rev. Anthony Perry of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Tampa, Fla., officiating.  Family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
