In December, the RCHS Forest and Ecology class held a fundraiser in which they sold freshly cut Christmas trees and wreaths. In a span of 12 hours, the class had sold a total of 76 Christmas trees and 20 Christmas wreaths. The class wishes to thank everyone who participated and plans are being made to continue the fundraiser for next year.
On Jan. 14, the SCA hosted a blood drive with the American Red Cross. This was the first blood drive at RCHS since 2019, after the COVID-19 outbreak put the drive on pause. A total of 41 students and faculty members donated blood, and at least one pint was donated from each individual. The blood collected from this drive will be later used for transfusions, cancer patients, burn victims, and for people with bleeding disorders.
On Jan. 18, senior Mayliah Hickling and junior Cheyenne Camden traveled to Richmond to speak with General Assembly members about Healthy Youth Day. Hickling and Camden traveled with a program called Y-Street, which is one of the largest organizations for youth advocacy in Virginia. Topics that these students presented to the General Assembly included obesity awareness, tobacco awareness, and access to clean water.
