Beach Music Festival This Weekend

A very special silver anniversary is taking place this Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29, at Glen Maury Park – the 25th Bank of Botetourt Beach Music Festival.

The committee and volunteers who put on the festival, said Mary Huffman, co-chair of the event, “are so proud to say this is our 25th year of providing the best of the best beach music to our area.” She noted that sponsors have continued to support the festival year after year, realizing that the diversity of musical entertainment provided at the park “is important for the whole community.” Huffman and MarVita Flint have cochaired the festival all 25 years.

The musical extravaganza starts Friday with a concert by the Cat5 Band. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6. Admission for this opening concert is $10. Huffman said Cat 5’s newest single, “The Beach and the Boulevard,” is taking “the southern beach music scene by storm.” The group, she added, “will play everything you could ever ask of a great band to play.”

Gates open Saturday at 11 a.m. for a day full of beach music played by three terrific bands. Admission to see all three groups is $25. The first band to take the stage will be Blackwater at noon. “This high energy group has the sound and rhythm to get you out of your chair and on the floor from the first song to the last,” said Huffman. “Dale and his group have been a favorite of ours for years and have played here at the festival many times and each time the crowd keeps a smile on their face and a song in their step – one of the best groups at the Myrtle Beach club scene for many years.”

The next group to perform, beginning at approximately 3 p.m., will be the Entertainers. “The Entertainers have won almost every Cammy award at the Beach Music Awards at Myrtle Beach that a band can win,” said Huffman. “So, it’s no wonder that they are a crowd favorite. Earl and his gang will blow you away with their energy and dancing music show.”

The day of beach music culminates with the return of Band of Oz, who will start their show at approximately 6 p.m. Huffman describes this mainstay of the festival as having “the voices and music of the best of the best beach music ever played on a stage. This group and all the groups to play at this festival are award winners with a caliber of music you hear up and down the east coast and will enjoy as we celebrate our 25th year of bringing beach music to Buena Vista and Rockbridge County.”

As always, the music is presented at the park’s covered main pavilion. The show will go on, rain or shine. Advance tickets are available at www.beachmusicfestival. net. Camping is available at the park for $20 per night, Thursday through Saturday.
