Buena Vista residents will have an extra nine days to purchase their vehicle decals this year. The deadline for affixing the 2023 decals to the windshields of vehicles in Buena Vista has been extended from March 1 to March 10.
City Council approved the extension Thursday after learning the new decals won’t be available for sale in the city treasurer’s office until Feb. 8, about a week later than usual. The reason for the delay is that the city had been planning to eliminate the decals this year but then found out a plan to do so can’t be implemented until at least next year because of computer software issues.
New software that is to upgrade the city’s financial system is expected to be installed in the next few months. As part of the upgrade, the city will, in the future, be able to accept credit cards and online payments, though there will be an extra charge for this service.
And, while the upgrade will allow for the elimination of vehicle decals in the next year or two, the fees associated with the decals won’t be going away. Those fees will be added to personal property tax bills.
