Beef prices were so high that local supermarkets warned customers that soon there would be no beef to buy in stores. -In the recently concluded fiscal year, the city of Lexington was looking at a budget surplus of $68,000. -A bloodmobile visit to Lexington and Rockbridge County resulted in a collection of 90 pints for the Red Cross.

A federal bankruptcy court approved an amended proposal by W.L. Ross & Co. and Mohawk Industries to purchase Burlington’s assets. Mohawk would purchase the Glasgow plant and the division offices in Greensboro. - The Rockbridge County School board applied for a $13 million loan to finance capital improvements at Effinger, Mountain View and Natural Bridge elementary schools. -A reunion of the African- American community was held at the Glasgow Community Center with over 400 current and former residents of the town registered for the event.
