Opal Marie Chittum Hickman, 86, of Buena Vista died Aug. 4

Opal Marie Chittum Hickman, 86, of Buena Vista, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2023.

Born Sept. 21, 1936, in Goshen, she was the daughter of the late Otho Chittum and Annie Floyd Chittum.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis James Shaw; grandchild, Kelly Farmer; brothers, Joseph Floyd and Otho Chittum Jr., and sister, Shirley Garrett.

Opal retired after 36 years with Burlington Industries.

Surviving are her husband, Lewis “Sonny” Lee Hickman; children, Russell Lee Shaw, Larry Edward Shaw and special friend, Ellen Bradley, Debra Carlene Ramsey (Mitch), Kevin Eugene Wilhelm (Deborah), and Sharon Elizabeth Patterson (David); seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Lee Mutispaugh (Carolyn); numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Green Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Dean Staton. 

Family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Home.
