Buster Carter of Goshen Died Aug. 8

 

Hobson Dewey “Buster” Carter, Jr. went to be with the lord on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, surrounded at home by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dreama Bowen Carter; his parents, Hobson Dewey Carter Sr. and Marie Withrow Carter; and his sisters, Elise C. Loving and Betty Lou Jolly.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda C. Dixon, Deborah C. Miller, and Pattie C. Boone and husband William Fletcher Boone, and son, Karl B. Bowen; grandchildren, Scott, Todd and Zachary Dixon, Isaac, Nathan and Jacob Miller, Mariah and Austin Boone, Jessica and Kevin Bowen; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Savannah Dixon, Ella Dixon and Cameron and Serinity Bowen.

Buster retired from CSX (C&O) Railroad after 44 years of service as an agent/operator. He was a lifelong member of the Goshen United Methodist Church, charter member of the Goshen Fire Department, charter member of the Goshen First Aid Crew, former member of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors, former member of the Goshen Town Council and former mayor of the town of Goshen.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing on Sunday afternoons and watching baseball on television.

His hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening and fishing all the rivers and creeks around Goshen. Buster also loved listening to country music.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Goshen Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery in Goshen.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to Bells Valley Worship Center, Craigsville, Goshen First Aid Crew or Goshen Volunteer Fire Department.
