The annual Deacon family reunion was held on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Mt. Horeb Methodist Church. At the 11 a.m. memorial service, 42 family and community members were memorialized. After the service a covered-dish lunch was held on the grounds under the shade of a big tree. There were 67 people in attendance.

The annual ice cream supper will be held at the Palmer Community Center beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and barbecue available, and several delicious flavors of homemade ice cream. This fundraiser will benefit the center and the Effinger Ruritan Club. Those attending will be able to enjoy live music.

The Neighborhood Ggrocery needs low sugar fruit drinks and boxes of macaroni and cheese for the month of August.
