Children Enjoy Arts Camp At Grace

Local children took part in all sorts of fun activities at Arts and Expression camp, held Aug. 7-11 at Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington.

Assisted by a staff of artists, musicians and teachers, children played “boom-bah” rhythms on drums (courtesy of Fine Arts in Rockbridge), made Origami butterflies and boats, water-colored sunflowers and mountains, learned songs and movements, were taught the seed pattern of labyrinths and multiple ways of walking a labyrinth and told stories.

The children were from all over the Rockbridge area and included some of the Ukrainian children living in Lexington currently. There will be another such offering, based on an inter- generational mini-musical called “The Winter Star” (about the journey to Bethlehem) Dec. 20-22 and 27-29, with a dress rehearsal on Jan. 2 and a performance on Jan. 6.

These programs are an outreach for families during holiday breaks. More details will be forthcoming about “The Winter Star.” For more information, contact Martha Burford at martha@ gracelexva.org.
