The Lexington Police Camp and Greater Rockbridge County Skateboarder Coalition hosted 42 campers at the Lexington Skatepark for free lessons for the campers on July 31.
Thanks go to Lance Branham, Travis Vance and Jason Kerr for leading the peer-designed lessons on skateboards provided by GRCSC. Safety pads and helmets were available to the campers, also furnished by the GRCSC.
The Greater Rockbridge County Skateboarder Coalition has received grants from Washington and Lee University, the Community Foundation for Rockbridge Bath and Allegheny, the United Way, Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital and many private donations from supporters over a two-year period. These funds have been used to build the wheelfriendly pieces at the Lexington Skatepark, and will be used to purchase a trailer and portable skatepark to be rotated throughout Rockbridge County.
“It takes a village to teach and spread the love of skateboarding, and many thanks go to the Lexington Police Department for bringing these many happy campers to the Lexington Skatepark,” said a coalition spokeperson.
