The Palmer Ice Cream Supper hosted by the Effinger Ruritan Club will be held this Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Palmer Community Center, 1230 Blue Grass Trail, beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing until dark.
The Effinger Ruritan Club invites all to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the free live musical entertainment that will be offered throughout the evening. Food items that will be available for purchase include hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, vegetarian chili, French fries, corn on the cob and homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors. Ice cream can also be purchased in quart containers to take home. Funds raised from the sale of food, ice cream and the 50/50 drawing will be used to support the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club.
It’s not too late to purchase the 2024 Effinger Community Birthday Calendar, prepared and sold by the Effinger Ruritan Club. The cost of the calendar is $3. The annual school bag campaign of the Collierstown Presbyterian Women concludes on Sunday, Aug. 20. Canvas tote bags filled with school supplies are being prepared for distribution by Church World Service to needy students. The group has completed 160 bags or 80 percent of its goal of making 200 bags. Call the church office at (540) 463-5918 for more information. A list of needed items is posted on the church’s Facebook page and tote bags are waiting ready to be filled. On Sunday, Aug. 13, the Rev. Bernard Bangley was the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. Following the service, lemonade on the lawn was provided by the Witness & Congregational Care Committee on the front lawn. The 9 a.m. chapel service for Lake Robertson campers had as its theme “God’s Nature.” It was led by Roger Lees. Community residents are also invited to join the campers attending the outdoor service at 9 a.m. each Sunday during August at Lake Robertson.
On Sunday, Aug. 27, Collierstown Presbyterian Church members and friends will gather on the church grounds at 10:30 a.m. for the church’s annual summer outdoor worship service. Leading the worship service will be Burr Datz with special music being provided by Jeremiah Holland. A covered-dish picnic lunch will follow on the church grounds.
The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s last barbecue chicken sale of the summer will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, beginning at noon. On that day barbecue chicken can be purchased as half chicken only or as a dinner which includes two sides, applesauce, roll and iced tea. The side choices will be green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad and cole slaw. Chicken will be available until all is sold. Food items may be purchased as carryout but some seating for indoor dining will be available.
The Buffalo and Collierstown churches that hosted the Community Revival on Thursday, Aug. 10, a t t he Effinger firehouse would like to thank all who participated in the evening of praise, worship and fellowship.
