The Rockbridge County School Board requested $157,000 for repairs to the high school’s public announcement system at its joint meeting with the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors.
Rockbridge County High School is without a PA system this school year, as it broke just before the start of the school year.
Rockbridge County Schools Superintendent Phillip Thompson said that while school staff have been able to adapt, working over phones and getting notifications on an app, the situation is not ideal.
“It comes down to a safety issue,” Thompson told the board. The projected timeline for repairs is around two months, though the School Board hopes it may be able to accelerate the process.
The Board of Supervisors advised the School Board to begin the repair process —contacting a contractor and finding replacement parts — and will make a decision on funding for the project at its October meeting.
