Glasgow Council Receives Updates

It was a fairly quick, routine meeting for Glasgow Town Council on Aug. 8.

It was a fairly quick, routine meeting for Glasgow Town Council on Aug. 8.

Several items were brought up like the position of town police being vacant, and the town is awaiting word on a grant to cover the salary of the one hired for this position. Meanwhile, the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office is covering the town.

The farmers market manager noted business there is doing well with an average of six vendors each time, but not always the same vendors. The utility building is still a work in progress.

Chris Flint noted they are still busy with mowing and weed eating around town. Notices went out in the water bill that the cutoff date for taking brush to the pile at the Locher location was Aug. 20, to allow the town staff to clear it up before the fair.

Council approved the purchase of a $12,000 John Deere mower from the Fishersville location. Town Manager Phil Robinette suggested the Council adopt the Virginia Municipal Building Code, which is stronger than the current code used in town. Copies will be emailed to Council members to look over and act on in September.

Robinettee also noted they are seeking at least three bids for cleaning out the ditch behind 2nd Street, and vicinity to help prevent flooding in that area. An engineer study may be needed for this as well.
