The application by the House Mountain Learning Cooperative for a conditional use permit to open an educational facility/family home daycare facility has been tabled for the time being while the cooperative engages a design professional to develop a plan for the use of the second floor of the house at 10 N. Lewis St. in Lexington.
The plan will be reviewed by Lexington’s building official and fire marshal, with the goal for the permit to come before the Lexington Planning Commission again at its Sept. 28 meeting.
The cooperative, meanwhile, “thanks to the helpful feedback and support of the community,” is also looking at other potential locations for their facility, in addition to the one on Lewis Street, to best meet the needs of the program.
House Mountain Learning Cooperative is a multi-age homeschool co-op which will open its doors this fall. HMLC program- ming is designed for students whose needs are best met through an alternative education program but who have aged out of similar models available in the area, such as Earthsong Cooperative School.
HMLC has the capacity to serve up to 12 students and provide inquirybased instruction, project- based learning, and hands-on outdoor learning opportunities.
