Roger Lee Bradley, 85, of Glasgow passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023. He was born in Amherst County on Aug. 18, 1938, to Massie A. Bradley and Ruby Wilmer Bradley.

The family moved to Rockbridge County when Roger was only 2. He graduated from Natural Bridge High School in 1957. He was a two-year Army veteran, having spent most of his service time in Kentucky. His work career took him from Lone Jack Limestone and Buena Vista Ready Mix, to part time at Reynolds Gulf (later Chevron). He went full time with the Chevron as a mechanic, and retired in 2001 after 30plus years. He played softball for the Gulf station in the 1970s, and later on was a member of the church softball league, and in his spare time coached his son’s little league teams.

He was a longtime member of Glasgow Baptist Church where he served as deacon and on the board of trustees. He was also a life member of the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department, having joined in the early 1960s. He was presented with a plaque for 59 years of service at their banquet earlier this year.

Bradley was also a member of the Glasgow Town Council for 30-plus years. After retiring from the Chevron he worked for the town and could be seen mowing all over town.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Johnny McCullough.

Surviving him are his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Nicely Bradley; sons Wesley Bradley and Michael Bradley (Andi); daughter Teri B. Blake (Brian); granddaughter, Abigail Blake; and sister, Louise B. McCullough. Also surviving him are a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted at Harrison Funeral Home chapel on Monday, Aug. 28, by the Rev. Larry Ross, assisted by Jeremy Kilgore. Burial followed at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in his memory to Glasgow Baptist Church or Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory. N-G
