Susan Rea Savage Bolling, 82, of Buena Vista died Aug. 18

 

      Susan Rea Savage Bolling, 82, of Buena Vista, passed away peacefully in her home on Aug. 18, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Rea Savage, and father, Charles Hugh Savage; her son Charles Christian Savage Bolling; her sister-in-law Littlepage Hancock Bolling; and niece Littlepage “Page” Hancock Bolling.

She is survived by her partner, Joseph “Buck” Stinnett of Buena Vista; son and daughter- in-law Courtney (Cynthia) Bolling, and son and daughter-in-law Robert (Dian) Bolling, both of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law Molly (Michael) Busseni of Lexington, Ky., as well as Joseph “Jody” Jr. and Jeffrey Stinnett of Buena Vista.

In addition to her children, she leaves behind her five grandsons, Austen, Alex, Connor and Christian Bolling, Ryan Busseni; and two granddaughters, Evelyn Bolling and Alexandra Busseni. Additionally, there are special in-laws Chan and Kae Bolling, Randy and Pudden Stinnett, and John and Cathie Butler. She also leaves behind many friends that she loved and welcomed as family.

Susan was born on Jan. 19, 1941, in Cape Charles. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, and took classes at Rutgers University in Princeton, N.J., before moving to Roanoke where she raised her family.

She had many interests there, including the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley and teaching Sunday school at Christ Episcopal Church.

She spent the last 31 years of her life in Buena Vista, and was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, which included becoming the financial secretary for several years.

Susan loved baking, gardening and reading. She had a tremendous work ethic, led by example and instilled the importance of education and unconditional love and support in her family. Susan found a passion for hospice care and volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia in Roanoke after the passing of her son Christian in 1984.

Many thanks to Missy Noel and her team of caregivers for the love and care extended to Susan during this time.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Buena Vista, with visitation to follow, on Monday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockbridge County Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
