Fifty-three members of the Hart family gathered at the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department on July 29 for the Hart Reunion, an annual event of at least 70 years.

Co-Presidents Mary Jo Baylor and Richard Hart welcomed the descendants of David Henry and Mary Ellen (Gaylor) Hart and John Harvey and Susan (Gaylor) Hart. Family updates were shared, and a moment of silence was observed for family members who had passed away since the last reunion.

Special mention was made of the family of Paul Hart, whose wife Beverly passed away a few days before the Reunion. Paul and Beverly were regular attendees of the reunion, traveling each year from Chesapeake, Ohio. Led by the younger members of the family, Rowdy and Rebel Hart and Robbie and Ella Dickey, the family prayed the traditional Hart Family Blessing before the potluck lunch.

Lunch concluded with the customary round of watermelon, and the afternoon continued with fellowship, genealogy updates, and photographs. After the reunion, many of the family members adjourned to enjoy time at the Maury River at Goshen Pass.

The two arrangements of flowers which decorated the tables were taken for Sunday morning worship at Bethesda Presbyterian Church and New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. The donation of the flowers to the two churches attended by many members of the Hart family is a long-standing tradition, with the flowers being given in memory of deceased family members.

Those attending from the Rockbridge area were Jerry and Margaret McDonald, and Jon and Jane McDonald and their children Jay, Angie and Ella, all of Rockbridge Baths.

Those attending from other parts of Virginia were Robert and Mary Jo Baylor of Norfolk; June Keller and Michelle Keller of Richmond; Norma Harris and Chuck Harris of Salem.
