Eighteen quilters participated in the Quilts in the Country 2023 quilt show, which is the formal quilt show of the Rockbridge Regional Fair & Expo in Glasgow.
The 37 quilts they produced were displayed once again in the sanctuary of the Glasgow Baptist Church.
Best in show this year went to Linda Puhle for her “Curves,” while the judge’s choice went to Gregg Colson’s “Peppermint Dash.” Susan Maluski won best use of color for her “Whimsey Doodle Doo,” and Linda Puhle’s “Circle of Life” won for best quilting.
The winner of the viewers’ choice ribbon was “Clownin Around” by Gail Caldwell.
The winners by category were as follows: Traditional, hand-quilted (class 1) – first, “Still of the Night” by Margo Carpenter; second, “A Friend Indeed” by Tom Cross.
Traditional, machine-quilted with domestic machine (class 2) – first, “Peppermint Dash” by Gregg Colson; second, “A Quilters Snowman” by Cathy Henderson.
Traditional, machine-quilted on long/mid arm (class 3)first, “Circle of Life” by Linda Puhle; second, “Scandi” by Cathy Henderson; third, “My Half Square Triangle Nightmare!!!” by Deborah L. Sutton; honorable mention, “Gold Daisies” by Rose Watts.
Traditional applique (class 4) – first, “Party Line” by Susan Maluski.
Modern (class 5)- first, “Curves” by Linda Puhle; second, “Blue Impulse” by Gregg Colson; third, “Coneflowers” by Jan Gordon.
Art quilt (class 6)- first, “Whimsy Doodle Doo” by Susan Maluski; second, “Dragonflies” by Linda Puhle; third, “The Storm” by Rose Watts.
Specialty techniques (class 7)- first, “Girl’s Getaway” by Cathy Henderson; second, “Sew Happy” by Linda Puhle.
Novelty (class 9) – first, “Deb’s Overnight Bag” by Deborah L. Sutton; second, “The Mountains are Calling” by Cathy Henderson.
