Sept. 13, 1973

“No Left Turn” signs went up in downtown Lexington on Nelson and Washington Streets while the traffic lights were retimed in preparation for the city’s one-way street program. - With use of the county’s new trash pick-up service on the rise, the Rockbridge Board of Supervisors voted to seek bids on 25 more trash receptacles. Abuse of the containers was becoming a problem. Someone managed to sneak a 50-gallon drum into one of them. - The Lexington Lions Club’s annual carnival began. The grand prize was an 800-pound steer.

Sept. 17, 2003

Rockbridge residents were preparing for wind and rain from Hurricane Isabel. - Workers at the Dana plant in Buena Vista voted for a union presence at the facility. - Rapps Church celebrated its 100th anniversary with 100 members and visitors in attendance.
