Charlie Manuel Recovering From Stroke

Philadelphia Phillies manager and Parry McCluer High School Athletic Hall of Famer Charlie Manuel is recovering from a stroke that occurred on Saturday.

The Phillies reported on Sunday that Manuel was alert, and doctors were encouraged by his progress after he suffered a stroke while undergoing a medical procedure in a Florida hospital. Medical personnel immediately attended to the 79-year-old after the stroke, subsequently removing a blood clot.

Manuel, a 1963 graduate of PM, is the winningest manager in Phillies history, compiling a record of 780-636 from 2005 to 2013. He led the club to five straight NL East division titles from 2007 to 2011, and the Phillies won the 2008 World Series.

A star athlete during his tenure with the Fighting Blues, Manuel was part of the inaugural class of the PM hall of fame, which was inducted in 2013.
