Jackson House Welcomes Back Apple Day

Jackson House Welcomes Back Apple Day
The Jackson House Museum will hold Apple Day on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Festivities include cider pressing, period music and dancing, storytelling, games and crafts for children of all ages. All demonstrations and activities are free.   According to Maj. Grace Moyer, site director, visitors will enjoy 19th century family fun, and will be able to make cider using an antique, hand-cranked cider press. In addition, they will learn about harvest time in 1850’s Lexington, experience dances of Jackson’s day with the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers, compete in 19th century games, and create jewelry, dolls and other toys and crafts to take home. “We had been doing the event for many years prior to COVID-19, and are very excited about its return,” she said.   The Jackson House Museum is located at 8 E. Washington St. in Lexington. The house, store, garden and exhibit gallery will be open during the event. All residents of Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County receive free admission to the museum. For more information, call (540) 464-7704 or visit www.vmi.edu/jhm.
