Local author and educator Cynthia Atkins will be teaching a creative writing workshop “Tell Your Story/Find Your Voice: Using Memory to Enter the Narrative Arc.”

There are five sessions beginning Tuesday, Oct. 10, through Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Blue Ridge Community College. Students will start with drafts and work towards finished pieces in a peer workshop format. Using journaling as a jumping off point, writers will craft work in their choice of genres of poetry, fiction or creative nonfiction. Participants will be instructed toward using the tools of voice, image, point of view, going from drafts to polished pieces, with an aim towards publication. Writers at any stage are welcome.

The class will meet in person on the campus at BRCC.

Atkins’ work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, and she is the author of four collections of poetry – “Psyche’s Weathers,” “In The Event of Full Disclosure,” “Still-Life With God” and “Duets.”
