The Rockbridge Chorus, directed by William McCorkle, will hold its opening rehearsal for the 2023-24 season on Monday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Lexington Presbyterian Church.
The Chorus season features three concerts, all given at Lexington Presbyterian. The opening performance will be the Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. This cherished traditional concert, offering a mix of new repertoire and favorite carols and songs from Chorus programs over the years, will open, as always, with a healthy dose of caroling with the audience.
On Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at 3 p.m., the Rockbridge Chamber Singers will present a program entitled “Radiance,” consisting of short choral masterpieces for the Christmas and Epiphany seasons, including works by Poulenc, Warlock, Mathias, Rutter and MacMillan. The program will feature the collaboration of organist Daniel Brinson of Charlottesville, who lived and worked in Lexington for many years.
“Daniel Brinson was an integral part of many of our finest performances over the years, including works of Bach, Mendelssohn, Lauridsen and Fauré,” said McCorkle. “We are delighted to welcome him back to brighten our January performance.”
The Rockbridge Chorus welcomes all interested singers, and invites them to attend the Sept. 25 rehearsal. There is a membership fee and a small music fee, but scholarship assistance is available. It will be helpful to arrive a few minutes ahead of the 7:30 start time to facilitate registration and other logistical details.
Anyone wishing for more information, or any singer planning to sing but unable to attend the opening (Sept. 19) rehearsal, is asked to call Melanie Griffis Hooper at (540) 460-9650.
The Rockbridge Chorus, the Rockbridge Chamber Singers, and the Rockbridge Youth Chorale, are the component choral ensembles of the Rockbridge Choral Society, which is supported by donations from area individuals, businesses and organizations.
