First Baptist To Dedicate Windows

The historic First Baptist Church in Lexington will dedicate several church windows in memory of three longtime members of the church this Sunday, Sep. 24.

The three to be remembered are Doris Porterfield, Mary Lewis and Elvia Brooks. Mrs. Porterfield served as a member of the finance committee and Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Brooks served as the church musicians and treasurer.

The worship service will culminate the celebration of the 156th anniversary of the church and fifth anniversary of Pastor McKinley Williams.

The service will begin at 11 a.m., and will be followed by an anniversary luncheon served in the downstairs fellowship hall from 1 to 3 p.m. catered by chef John Stallard and Chef’s Catering.

Homecoming

At Stone Church

The Stone Church of the Brethren in Buena Vista will celebrate its 115th anniversary this Sunday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m.

Special music will be provided by country gospel singer Smokey Wilson.

A covered-dish meal will follow the worship service in the fellowship hall.

Choral Evensong

At Grace Church

Choral Evensong celebrating the Feast of Michael and All Angels will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. A reception of Blackberry goodies and beverages will follow.

Musical Event

At Asbury UMC

Asbury United Methodist Church in Brownsburg will hold a musical fundraiser for cemetery maintenance this Sunday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m.

Several choirs and soloists will be performing. Light refreshments will be served.

Emory UMC

Participating

In Heritage Day

Emory United Methodist Church, located at 429 Tye River Turnpike, Vesuvius, plans to participate in Vesuvius Heritage Day on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Food will be the usual breakfast, lunch, and a bake sale. All food is available for takeout orders. Barbecue chicken will be available at lunchtime.

The church is planning a yard sale. Set up is free for your own yard sale with an optional donation to the church.

Profits will be used for continued community outreach.
