Betty Agnor Bourne, 84, of both Lexington and Rockville passed away peacefully Sept. 7, 2023, surrounded by family.
Born Jan. 29, 1939, in the former Stonewall Jackson House in Lexington, she was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Stuart Agnor Jr. and Opal Nuckols Agnor, and her brother, Albert Stuart Agnor III.
She is survived by her husband and soulmate, Gene Abbitt Bourne; daughter Terry Bourne Patrick; son, Gene Abbitt Bourne II (Tina); son, Chadwick Agnor Bourne (Erin); five grandchildren, Branden Whitten (Chad), Madison Bourne, Kendall Bourne, Callie Bourne, Braxton Bourne and one greatgranddaughter, McKenzie Whitten. She is also survived by a niece and nephew and too many to count, amazing, loving friends.
Lovingly known as “Gran” to SOOO MANY ‒ far and wide, young and old, she always had time and love for her family and friends and a glass of “refreshment” if the occasion called for it! Her beautiful blue eyes and smile would light up a room when she entered and she had a knack for being the life of the party OR the first person you would call if you needed ANYTHING in a time of need, sorrow or heartbreak.
She graduated from Lexington High School, then attended RPI – now known as Virginia Commonwealth University; where she met, fell in love with and married the love of her life, Gene, and as they say the rest is history and a long one at that – just shy of 65 years!
In addition to her devoted love for her family and many dear friends, she had an amazing knowledge and passion for flowers. Through the years she was a member of several Garden Clubs around Virginia, several local clubs, including Thomas Jefferson and Canterbury where she served as president from 1979 to 1981; was a nationally accredited flower show judge, as well as a Master Gardner; and a member of the Richmond Council of Garden Clubs where she was the General Chairman of the Holiday Flower Show in December 1977. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 66 years.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, at Springfield Christian Church, 18285 Vontay Road, Rockville, VA 23146. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, make any donations to Springfield Christian Church. N-G
