PM Wrestlers Win Against Bath, Take District Title

The Parry McCluer High School wrestling team competed on Monday night in a Pioneer District matchup against Covington and Bath County. The match was primarily against Bath County, with Covington only bringing two wrestlers. The Blues won against Bath County 54-30, and took the district title with the victory.

Kabell Austin wrestled twice in the match, going 1-1 in the 215 weight class. In his first match, Austin wrestled Luke Connor from Covington and was pinned in the second round with thirty seconds left. Austin also wrestled Austin Miller from Bath County and won with a pin in 47 seconds.

Jacob Shafer went 2-0 in the tournament, beating Trevor Dennon from Covington in the 126 weight class by pin and taking a forfeit victory.

Ryan Patterson earned a victory in the 120 weight class against Lyric Altizer from Bath County. Patterson won by a pin in the first minute of the first round.

Jackson Brockenbrough took another victory for the Blues in the 144 weight class. Brockenbrough pinned Bath County’s Ethan Bryant with 23 seconds left in the second round.

In the 190 weight class, Cody Thomas took an early 10-3 against Chargers’ Ignacio Malpica. Thomas pinned Malpica with 15 seconds left in the second round.

Scottie Garrett lost by way of pin in the in the second round against Jeremy Burns from Bath County in the 150 weight class.

Clyde Vassar, Cyler Driscoll, Junior Convers, and Timmy Lesher all won by forfeit. Vassar, Convers, and Driscoll all competed in exhibition matches following their forfeit victories.

The PM wrestling team will compete again on February 11th in the regional tournament at Fort Chiswell High School.
