The Rockbridge Hunt invites horseback riders and spectators to its showcase event, the Rockbridge Fall Hunter Pace and trail ride, at Goose Creek Highlands on Sunday, Oct. 1, in Raphine. The event features horseback riding, shopping and tailgating.

Riders will go out in groups starting between 10 a.m. and noon, navigating a marked course of approximately five miles, winding its way through rolling terrain - a mix of open fields and wooded trails. T he course features breathtaking views of the mountains and many fun optional jumps, said a spokeswoman.

Riders may chose to ride competitively or just for pleasure; the competitive divisions are timed and ribbons will be awarded through sixth place to the teams who finish the course closest to the optimum time. There are five different divisions and the event is open to English, Western, Saddleseat, horses, ponies and mules.

The event will have a tailgating tent placed on a scenic spot where spectators can watch the horses over four jumps while enjoying their own snacks and beverages. There will also be shopping with the Grey Horse Saddlery vendor tent offering a wide variety of horsethemed decorative items, clothing and jewelry.

Lucy Turner has offered her property and trails for this event. Goose Creek Highlands is located at 372 Davis Road.
