Mount Olivet United Methodist Church will celebrate homecoming this Sunday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m.
The Ladies of Mercy will be singing, and a potluck luncheon will follow the service.
The church is located at 26310 Lee Highway just south of the Rockbridge-Botetourt county line.

The Rev. Bernard Bangley was the leader of the 11 a.m. worship service at Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Sept. 24. Peter Del Vecchio was the pianist. A congregational meeting will be held following the Oct. 1 worship service for the purpose of electing a nominating committee to secure church officer candidates.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Women are making preliminary plans for the annual church dinner that will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the church with meals being served continuously from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Patrons may choose to dine-in or carry-out meals. The day’s menu will feature country ham, fried oysters and turkey with all the trimmings. An array of home-cooked vegetables, coleslaw, applesauce, breads, assorted beverages and slices of delicious homemade cakes will provide the finishing touches for this unique dining experience. The day will also include a bazaar with baked goods, fresh homemade soups and crafts that will benefit the Rockbridge Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Helping Hands, a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. On Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m., BARC will hold a town hall meeting open to the public in Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s fellowship hall. The purpose of the event is to discuss high-speed internet service for the Collierstown area. BARC will provide an update on the process.
The Collierstown United Methodist Church will hold a cleaning day on Saturday, Oct. 6, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for the annual homecoming celebration Oct. 7 and 8. Saturday evening, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. this year’s celebration will begin with a program of special music provided by the Ladies of Mercy in the church sanctuary followed by a time of fellowship and light refreshments. On Sunday, Oct. 8, the 183rd homecoming celebration will be held with guest minister the Rev. Doug Mitchell speaking at the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Mitchell served as minister of the church from 2010 until 2013. A covered-dish luncheon will follow the worship hour.
There will be a spaghetti supper beginning at 5 p.m. at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 21. The meal includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti, tossed salad, bread, dessert and assorted beverages. The cost of the meal is by donation.
