“Crazy,” “Good-Hearted Woman,” “Fox on the Run,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Jackson” – do any of those titles make you want to sing, play, hum, or just enjoy? Those are just a few of the songs heard at Maury River Senior Services lately.
The Mrs C’s Pickers and Singers have been meeting to pick and grin since 2005 and they always welcome new members.
“We’re a little bit folk, a little bit gospel, a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll,” according to Ray Blouin who has been leading the group since the beginning.
All kinds of guitars, dobros, banjos, mandolins, stand-up bass, and even tambourines, rhythm shakers and kazoos are played; singers range from members of choirs and choruses to those who sing only for their own enjoyment.
“We don’t expect anyone to be expert at playing or singing,” says Barry Sullivan, Blouin’s able and important assistant. “We’re all learning together and helping each other along the way.”
Mrs C’s Pickers and Singers meet from 10 to 11 on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at Maury River Senior Services in Buena Vista. Those interested in perhaps joining the group are welcome to drop by or to call MRSS at (540) 261-7474 for more information.
