The AFCEA Shenandoah Rockbridge Chapter and The Advancement Foundation are holding a Cyber Social Networking event on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Virginia Innovation Accelerator at 245 W. 21st Street, Buena Vista.

At 5:30 p.m., the event kicks off with a brief presentation from TAF introducing its Repository of Innovators Project for Student Engagement. Then, a panel of experts will discuss how trends in technology, cybersecurity, agriculture, and employment impact opportunities in our local, regional, and national communities. Following a question-and-answer session, break out tables commence.

There, students and local emerging leaders will network with the experts, as they discuss how to grow their own companies, access the ecosystem supporting innovation and business development, understand local and global cybersecurity threats, and imagine dronerelated technology and applications.

Attendees can also explore internships and employment opportunities while building contacts with leaders in academia, industry, military branches, and local and state agencies. Professional, academic and governmental leaders in attendance can network to strengthen their collaborations, so they can better serve the region by providing students and emerging leaders with cooperative career development and growth, mentorship, and community engagement.

At 7 p.m., after a short break, the social hour will begin. Caterers will provide hors d’oeuvres and beverages while attendees join the breakout tables and continue conversations about business, cybersecurity, agriculture, and technology, or take a walkabout, networking and discussing interrelated opportunities for our region’s educational and economic advancement.

Space is limited, so those interested should respond to the event’s open invitation through https://www.picktime. com/VIACOWORK under “CLASSES, BCCE Social Networking Event.”

Organizers welcome local and regional business leaders, governmental representatives, STEM/IT faculty and students from area high schools and universities; and interested residents.
