Glasgow Council

Camden Says Civic Pride Key For Town

Tom Camden, currently a member of Glasgow Town Council, is seeking to maintain his seat for another twoyear term.

He is a native of the area and has lived in the town for the past 30 years. He graduated from Natural Bridge High School, Washington and Lee University, and the University of Tennessee. He retired earlier this year from W&L.

He is a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church, and is a trustee of the Rockbridge Historical Society. He also serves on the town’s planning commission.

“Civic pride is the key to the successful growth of any community and that is why I am running for reelection,” Camden said. “I have seen positive growth, particularly in the recreation potential for Glasgow and I am eager to see that develop further. An aging population on fixed income is a serious concern. Affordable housing is another issue that needs addressing, and being able to attract young families to Glasgow is a goal.

“I feel that the most serious concern going forward is apathy,” he continued. “Encouraging greater participation in civic affairs, volunteering for committees and willingness to serve in public office are all challenges that Glasgow faces. Again, it comes back to civic pride. Glasgow’s potential for growth is enormous due to its natural beauty, and apathy has no place here.”
