Public Works Update Given
An update on Buena Vista public works was given at the City Council meeting on Sept. 21. Corey Henson, director of public works, reported on current projects that the public works department is tasked with. The department is only staffed with five people, including Henson to handle all public works issues and construction. But despite being short-staffed, Henson is pleased with the work he has been seeing. “The guys are really working hard at this job. They’ve put in a fair share, so hats off to them,” he said.
Line striping was redone in downtown recently, including parking lines and yellow lines on the roads. “We are right at 100 tons of asphalt being put down this summer due to new construction, water leaks, sewer leaks and potholes,” he said.
Public Works still has a number of projects that they plan to complete, including water system restoration and leakage repair. He alluded to more construction on downtown streets by the city’s natural gas supplier. “Columbia Gas has also been awarded some money to dig up more of our streets this fall into the winter, mainly around 13th [and] 14th Street area,” he said.
Buena Vista City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 21 to appoint Sarah Henson to the city’s Planning Commission. She will replace Lucy Ferrebee, who did not seek reappointment. Ferrebee’s term expires Sept. 30.
