In spite of the chilly weather, a large number of the congregation of Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship gathered on the front lawn for morning worship services, which included the baptism of about 50 people.

Tonight, Oct. 11, is the next Community Meal that will take place at the Thompson Center in north Glasgow from 6 to 7 p.m.

Guest speaker at Glasgow Baptist Church this past Sunday was Dr. Randy Spencer, director of church revitalization at Liberty University. He has been working with the church leaders to provide guest speakers each Sunday while the search for an interim and/or full time pastor continues. He noted that a lot of small town churches are currently without a full-time pastor, and there just aren’t available pastors out there. He told the congregation that times have changed and men of old who answered the call to be a pastor went in faith that God would provide, and He did. These young men coming out of college and seminaries today have huge student loan debts and they seek employment with large salaries to support their families and pay off those loans. His job is to introduce these young Christian men to small churches and pray they will feel the call of God to go in faith to serve in a small church setting.

Carolyn Bradley recently attended the Saturday cookout of the Alleghany County High School All Colt Reunion for the years 19641984. Bradley was in the first graduating class of the school in 1964. She and one other classmate were the only ones from that year attending the Saturday event. There were about 150 alumni in attendance. The school merged with Clifton Forge in the fall of 1984, and the mascot changed to the Mountaineers. This fall another merger happened when Covington High School joined them and the mascot is now the Cougar.

The annual “trunk-or-treat” event is planned for Saturday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Locher Pavilion. Glasgow Baptist Church is planning a Fall Outreach Festival on that day from 2 to 5 p.m. with games, prizes, hot chocolate, candy and hot apple cider. Bring the family by the church parking lot some fun activities then move over to Locher Pavilion for trick or treating, games, food and fun for the whole family. In case of inclement weather the church event will move inside.

Union Baptist Church will host its second annual Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 29, from noon to 2 p.m. There will be a car show, petting zoo, games, food and fellowship. All are welcome to attend.
