The Collierstown United Methodist Church’s 183rd homecoming celebration Oct. 7-8 was a joy filled celebration! On Saturday evening, the church family and community friends came together for a program of special music provided by the Ladies of Mercy in the church’s sanctuary. The evening’s program included an intermission providing a time of fellowship and light refreshments for all in attendance. On Sunday, Oct. 8, the 11 a.m. homecoming worship service was led by the Rev. Bill Bearden, the church’s current minister. The congregation welcomed Dalton and Amy Woody as new members. Dalton Woody also received the sacrament of Baptism. A covereddish luncheon followed the worship hour. The church family enjoyed celebrating and remembering the church’s ministry in the Collierstown community for almost two centuries.

Upcoming activities for the Collierstown United Methodist Women in Faith include attending the annual district meeting at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. On Saturday evening, Oct. 21, the church will host a spaghetti supper beginning at 5 p.m. The meal includes all you can eat spaghetti, tossed salad, bread, dessert and assorted

meal is by donation.

A “trunk or treat” event sponsored by the Effinger community churches will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the field across from the Effinger Fire Department. Church members will be in decorated cars handing out candy treats to the community’s children. This year’s event will also offer a cakewalk. Funds raised from the sale of cakewalk tickets will be divided and donated to the community’s Rise Against Hunger meal packing day to be held in the spring and to the Challenger Baseball League for handicap children in Roanoke. Participating churches for this year’s “trunk or treat” include the Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Church and the Union View Advent Christian Church.

Leading the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Oct. 8, was Burr Datz. Peter Del Vecchio was the pianist. The Collierstown Presbyterian Church is preparing for its annual dinner that will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Country ham, fried oysters and turkey dinners will be available for dining in or for taking out.
