Rockbridge Bird Club will hold this month’s Second Saturday morning bird walk on the Chessie Nature Trail rather than at Boxerwood while the nature center readies its “Spectacle 2023: A Wild Notion!” Walks are guided by club members and are open to all.

Birders will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in the parking area at the Buena Vista trailhead near the junction of Stuartsburg Road and U.S. 60. They’ll stroll for approximately two hours up and back the easternmost segment of the trail. Participants are likely to see a variety of birds, including herons, raptors, songbirds heading south, winter returnees and year-round residents.

To reach the trailhead from Buena Vista, head west on U.S. 60, then turn right just before the Robey Bridge onto Stuartsburg Road. From Lexington, head east on U.S. 60. Just past the Robey Bridge, turn left onto Stuartsburg Road. Parking for the boat launch and the Chessie Nature Trail is on the left on Stuartsburg Road, .2 mile from U.S. 60.

Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy walking shoes and bring binoculars and water. Be aware that there are no restroom facilities along the trail. This event will be canceled in the event of rain. For more information, send email to Wendy Richards at [email protected] or call (540) 463-5214.
