As a candidate for Rockbridge County treasurer, Michele Clark brings 15 years of banking experience to the table, which she developed over a career that began as a floating teller across eight branches and ended as an assistant area operations manager.
“My experience involved balancing tellers, branches, and vaults,” she told The News-Gazette. “It also entailed auditing to ensure all procedures were being followed and no criminal activity was being conducted. I also have five years of additional experience as a mortgage loan originator.”
Currently, Clark serves as the victim/witness director for the Buena Vista commonwealth’s attorney’s office, a position that she has held for the past 13 years. The position is completely grant funded and for which she “must adhere to a budget, as well as rewrite my grant each year for renewal.
“I must follow strict budgeting and grant guidelines and report out to both local and state governments for verification,” she said.
After finding out that the county treasurer’s position would be open and learning that no one currently working in the office would be pursuing the role, Clark decided to pursue the position “I have always enjoyed working with numbers, finance, budgeting, etc., throughout my career,” she said. “I enjoy working with the public and doing community service. This will be another avenue of providing service in our community.”
If elected treasurer, Clark said that she plans to “uphold high standards of honesty, integrity, and professionalism in performing the treasurer’s duties.
“I will demand polite, courteous and professional service be provided by my office to every community member,” she added. “I will be a good steward of Rockbridge taxpayers’ funds and always represent the county and community in a positive manner inside and outside of the office.”
