Bicyclists visiting downtown Buena Vista now have a convenient place to park their bikes.
A new bike rack has been installed at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and 21st Street. An initiative of Main Street Buena Vista, the bike rack was crafted by Rails End Wood-Metals Crafters in Lexington.
“The bike rack was designed to blend into the charming landscape of downtown Buena Vista,” said Brooke Dalton, executive director of MSBV. “Its unique design provides a functional space for cyclists to securely park their bikes, adds an artistic touch to the downtown area, and embodies MSBV and the city of Buena Vista’s dedication to the downtown revitalization efforts and promotion of outdoor recreational opportunities available in Buena Vista.”
Dalton said the bike rack is one of several projects MSBV has been working on that were funded by a Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development Community Vitality Grant received through the Virginia Main Street program. “The [CV grant] is designed to assist organizations and communities in achieving their downtown revitalization goals,” she said. “These grants provide funding for various projects that contribute to the overall economic and cultural development of the community.”
In addition to the bike rack, Dalton said, “MSBV has put the grant to good use by purchasing and placing benches and planters along Magnolia [Avenue], as well as recently finishing a vinyl window project where frosted vinyl was applied to the lower portion of vacant storefronts and colorful text was applied above to advertise everything that is wonderful about [Buena Vista].”
Dalton credited Ruthie Lawhorne with creating and placing the lettering on the storefronts. “The vinyl window project not only adds aesthetic appeal to the storefronts but also serves as a creative way to attract attention and promote local businesses.”
The goal of MSBV, Dalton noted, “is to create a vibrant and thriving downtown for residents and visitors alike. Through various initiatives such as events, beautification projects and supporting local businesses, MSBV aims to foster a sense of pride and connection among all those who are part of the Buena Vista community.”
