Following the Virginia Horse Center Foundation’s September quarterly meeting, the organization’s board of directors and Chief Executive Officer Glenn T. Petty announced the addition of Judy Ulrich Miller of Hampton to the Board for a three-year term.
A private banker with TowneBank in Newport News, Miller possesses a strong background in finance, having served in the industry for over 30 years, both in the retail and wealth management sectors. Recently, she has established a niche within TowneBank in which she serves the unique needs of veterinarians, horse owners, and farms as well as human medical specialties.
Miller is a lifelong equestrian; her horse, Lou, competes in the hunter ring and is trained by renowned hunter rider and judge Peg Seals of Freedom Farm in Smithfield. Originally from Akron, Ohio, Miller was a working student for Carol Wilson Klima, who was instrumental in introducing Off the Track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) to the hunter/jumper world.
Miller’s track record of community engagement on the Virginia Peninsula includes board service with such organizations as the Peninsula Town Center Community Development Authority, where she was past chair for four years. She has also served on the board of directors of the Peninsula SPCA, the Virginia Air and Space Museum, and the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership (past chair). Upon her election to the Horse Center’s Board, Miller commented, “It is truly an honor to serve the Virginia Horse Center, a place that has become very special to me and so many others throughout the years. I look forward to helping the horse center realize its mission in a way that celebrates its traditions while innovating toward a bright future.”
Miller is joined on the Board by President Roxanne Booth (Charlottesville), Vice President Kenneth Wheeler Jr. (Keswick), Secretary Elizabeth Horsley (Richmond), and Immediate Past President Gardy Bloemers (Esmont). Directors Judith Bishop (Washington, D.C.), Brooks Cushman (Middlebrook), Chuck Grossmann (Keswick), William Heizer (Staunton), Col. David Lands (Gloucester), Dudley Macfarlane (Charlottesville), Ernest Oare (Warrenton), Christina Russillo (Purcellville), Brian Ross (Fairfield), George Williams (Scottsville), Owen Weaver (Greensboro, N.C.), and Chris Wynne (Chesapeake) comprise the remainder of the 17-member Board.
