Sending birthday wishes to Kevin Williams in Laurel, Md., from his Arnolds Valley family and to Kyana Reuther and Caleb Dransfield, as well as to Faith Baptist Church members Barry Fitzgerald, Cracker Funkhouser, Marjorie Beard, Freda Reynolds, Susie Clark, Lorie Poston and Betty Miller. Happy 100th birthday to Ethelyn Bell of Bonham, Texas. For her birthday, Mrs. Bell asked for 100 cards in a Facebook post that went viral. Including the one my family sent her, she has since received over 7,000!

Sending well wishes of better health to Jesse Nelson. Faith Baptist Church will be having a Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Oct. 11 at 8 a.m. There will be a song and praise service on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. The church’s trunk or treat event will take place on Oct. 29.

Many thanks to the Rev. Brad Laycock for leading Holy Eucharist this past Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church as well as to Sharon White for leading morning prayer the week prior and to the Rev. Jeanette Pillsbury for leading a Holy Eucharist service two weeks ago. Thanks also to Bert Buford and Josh Gardner for providing music for the service.

While out riding the valley’s mountain roads last week, a young bear crossed in front of me on Parker’s Gap Road about a mile southeast of Back Run. As the season progresses, area wildlife is on the move. Please be mindful of this movement when out and about!
