BOB DAHL

Robert “Bob” Dahl died unexpectedly on Sept. 25, 2023.

Robert “Bob” Dahl died unexpectedly on Sept. 25, 2023.

Robert was born Nov. 5, 1968, in Chicago, Ill., to his wonderful parents, Robert and Betty Dahl. He was the youngest of four children and their only son.

Robert made friends easily as the family moved from Chicago to Forrest City, Ariz., to Huntington Valley, Pa., to Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He graduated from Chagrin Falls High School in 1987 and went on to Notre Dame on a full football scholarship. Bob was a key part of the Fighting Irish defensive line and was a member of the 1988 National College Football Championship team. He graduated from Notre Dame with a business degree in 1991.

Robert was selected in the third round of the 1991 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He would go on to play for his hometown Cleveland Browns as an offensive right guard. He spent his final seasons with the Washington Redskins.

It was this last NFL move that introduced Bob to his love of Virginia. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and more than once transformed farm property into an oasis of mixed habitats. Robert was also a skilled woodworker with a keen eye for detail.

Robert’s enigmatic smile would warm your heart. He was kind and generous with a quick wit like his father. He is remembered for the big heart he shared with friends and family.

His greatest love was for his three children, Cooper, Maddie and Ava, who blessed the family after the move to Lexington in 2003. His eyes would sparkle when he talked of them and you couldn’t meet a prouder father. He enjoyed making memories with them and sharing his interests in all things outdoors, and way too many Will Ferrell movies.

Robert was integral in the founding of CornerStone Bank. He was both a board member and served as chief financial officer. He took pride in successfully bringing local banking back to Lexington.

Robert is missed by his son Cooper, daughter Madeline, and youngest daughter Ava. He is survived by his mother, Betty Dahl; sisters Susan McLaughlin, Karen Thistle and Beverly Dahl. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, in 2005. Bob is also survived by the loving mother of his children, Lynne Kirkpatrick.

A memorial service will be held to remember Robert on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. at the Lexington Baptist Church located at 75 Old Farm Road in Lexington. (lexva.church) Donations may be made in his memory to the Concussion Legacy Foundation (concussionfoundation. org) or Holtz’s Heroes Foundation (holtzsheroes. org).

We have loved Bob all his life and will miss him the rest of ours.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory. N-G
