Collierstown Presbyterian Church launched its annual “Souper Bowl of Caring” food drive on Sunday, Jan. 29, and the community is now being invited to help.
This year’s drive has as its theme “Pack the Porch” for those with food needs. The church plans to use the railed porch area at the entrance to its front doors as the food collection site on Saturday, Feb. 11.
They are asking members, friends, neighboring churches, and the community to fill the porch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with boxes and bags of canned foods, paper products, and monetary gifts. Items collected will be divided and distributed to Rockbridge Area Relief Association and to Helping Hands – a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church family is also inviting area residents to be a part of its “Souper Bowl” team bringing donations for the porch to Cattlemen’s Market or Goad’s Body Shop any business day Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Items may also be brought to the church Feb. 6-10 between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
On Feb. 11 a team of volunteers will be on hand in front of the church to help unload and place items on the porch. They will also pick up donations on or before Feb. 10 for those who can’t come that day.
Those wishing to give monetary donations should mail them to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450. Gifts should be designated for “Pack the Porch.”
