On a picture-perfect day to be outdoors, the George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) hosted its annual Veteran Support Golf Tournament at the Lexington Golf and Country Club on Friday, Sept. 15.
“It was an outstanding tournament with an even more outstanding objective to raise resources to better serve our veterans and their families,” said a MOAA spokesman.
The tournament was played using the Captain’s Choice format, with gross and net prizes for both male and female flights. Prizes were also awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive. Two women’s and 11 men’s teams, a total of 56 golfers, competed during the tournament.
The team of Shelly Undercoffer, Leslie Straughan, Christie Harris, and Suzanne Williams placed first for the women’s flight with a low net score of 61; the team of Linda Maini, Jane Mortenson, Carol Blair, and Vickie Black took the prize for low gross score with a 71.
The men’s flight (gross) was won by the team of Dave Leonard, Steve Funkhouser, Eric Spencer, and Ryan McCullough with a score of 60; men’s low score (net) was won by the foursome of Chris Terapane, Brian Murphy, Dave Kierstead, and Kevin Gallagher with a score of 52.
Bob Hopkins won the honors for men’s closest to the pin and Vickie Black won for the women. For the title of longest drive, Christie Harris was the women’s winner and Allan Schankweiler won for the men.
All proceeds from the tournament will be used to support special service projects, and to provide assistance and scholarships for veterans and their families.
