Tuesday, Oct. 24 -- Third-seeded Eastern Montgomery defeated second-seeded Parry McCluer High School 3-2 in the semifinals of the Pioneer District volleyball tournament in Buena Vista.
Macie Akers totaled 10 kills, 11 assists and three aces to lead the Mustangs (13-12) to a 16-25, 29-27, 25-13, 20-25, 15-9 victory. EastMont will travel to top seed Bath County (16-5) for the Pioneer title match on Thursday evening.
Kadence Zollman paced the Fighting Blues (8-9) with 13 kills and five aces. PM will play host to fourth-seeded Narrows (6-16) in the district third-place match, also slated for Thursday.
Natalie Mohler added 19 assists and 17 digs for the Blues, while Sydney Mahaffey tallied six kills and 16 digs. Tatyana Turner chipped in 14 digs and a match-high seven aces, Peira Conner notched six kills and three blocks, and Savannah Lewis served up five aces for PM.
Brookelyn Kingery finished with seven kills, nine assists and three aces for the Mustangs. Olivia Boone contributed seven kills and three aces for EastMont, and Hailey Akers recorded six kills.
The Blues will take on the Green Wave at 6 p.m. Thursday in Buena Vista.
